The Internet Bubble version 2.0 is about to pop
Bubble version 1.0 came and went with a bang. There are still a few top contenders out there such as Amazon.com, eBay.com and few others but many companies came and went without a trace. Kinda reminds of the day of when 80’s hair bands were the shit.
We are currently in the midst of Bubble version 2.0 along with the tag line of Web 2.0. With the state of the economy and money becoming harder and harder to come by this bubble is about to burst any minute. I wonder who will survive and who will die. Will we even hear of the ones who died? Were there some good ideas out there? I am sure there are, but will not be able to make it up for air. I wonder what will happen to companies like Craigslist, wikipedia, and digg? I am sure most of those will be around, but especially digg I think might run into some problems. Are the making money yet? Didn’t they just get another round of money? My personal opinion is if they don’t get bought out soon, they will become a victim of Bubble V 2.0.
This leads up to the Bubble V 3 and wondering what it is going to look like. With mobile phone applications just now starting to hit the market, I really think there is going to be some major VC money put into this arena. From a business model, it makes a whole lot more sense than web 2.0 websites. People will actually pay $5 - $20 for a decent app on their phone and the apps coming out right now are geared toward the home casual user. The real money is in the enterprise sector. If a company can create an app or apps for the iPhone, Blackberry and Android that will help the enterprise for X, then that company is slotted to really black gold, Texas T.
With the next gold rush being in the mobile application market, who out there is thinking in these realms? I haven’t heard of anyone. Have you? I am keeping my ears open, because the company who feels this gap will become the next (I hate to say it) Microsoft and Google. What are your thoughts? Sound off in the comments and let me know.
